This Saturday Broken Social Scene will play in Toronto at Field Trip for the first time since 2011. Playing You Forgot it in People front to back this is the gig of the year for me. You Forgot it in People is incredible, beautiful and possibly their greatest album. It saves me when I’m hungover, when I’m travelling, when I’m at work, when I’m happy or when I’m sad. With the whole group going to be there, including Feist, it’s going to be one of those “once in a lifetime shows” and possible one of the last times or the last time they will all play together as Broken Social Scene.
Field Trip itself has an excellent lineup comprising of Broken Social Scene, Feist, Bloc Party, Stars, Dan Mangan, Hayden, Timber Timbre, Trust, Ra Ra Riot, Cold Specks, Jason Collett, Zeus, The Darcys, Gold & Youth and Still Life Still. Posted on the Field Trip website this is ” a celebration – not just of Arts & Crafts 10 year anniversary and our artists – but of Toronto, of community and perhaps above all else, of the collaborative spirit.” It’s this collaborative spirit that defines the label and more so of Broken Social Scene. It’s why I fell in love with the band, the label and the scene – the spirit of friends playing in each other’s bands, celebrating and supporting each other’s work. I wish I could be part of it. It’s going to be one crazy party.
