All this imagery of summertime and shy sailors set for the sea, of sunrise and ‘she’s; I’m a sucker for it. All these words, all these boys’ voices, flowing like water on spring rhythms, on summer strolls; it’s hard not to let this song right in to your reason. The songs, together, they seem to be hazily, lazily drifting into some dreams of the sun and the cosiest of companionships only youth could germinate. Beneath a waited winter watering can, to then be waking up willingly, sun. This idyllic image is placed upon a jangling jaunty March; seems inappropriate for real life come to think of it. Because, I mean, the moment June becomes in your reach… One can only dream.

And that’s why we keep on moooooooooving.

Young Dreams are from Norway, they’re playing Oslo day after tomorrow, word has it they’re releasing some things soon, I’m sure they’re trackable. Dirty Gold are from somewhere near California.

Nothing like a healthy dose of splintering Bristol swagger draped over big noise/big band twist and slam. The opener to Tricky‘s Knowle West Boy is a bit of a black tie hellraiser. OK enough phrase coining.

I bought KWB by accident, for some reason I had Tricky confused with Shlohmo who I had accidentally seen at a festival a few years back and had been blown away by. So when I found the LP loitering in one of Exeter’s 2/3 remaining record stores I went for it. Turns out Tricky is not Schlohmo. No biggy, the guy can make a seriously good record. However putting on a record that you know you bought by mistake does have you expecting to have picked up a dud and be 10 quid lighter for it.

Puppy Toy drops bombs on that kind of thinking.

One of the best albums I have bought this year, the new album is out now

Shimmer, sparkle, shine… Haze. And a swan looks knowing, turns its head, wasn’t staring. And the updates keep coming, bus stopping light aching out the corners, arrowhand always in the eddy from 4 till 7, swirling out, questioning. Till the solitary star, shaking, steady… and fade out. Behind the clouds. So fresh, so pure, like water, like wind, like breath of tree and growth of breath. And starout again. Cloud smiles, fondly, and move on, frantically. Then down.

I look down… At my feet. Steady. On the ground. And your feet too.

There’s so much light and loudness to this january 2010 album of Asura – like a peaceful view from a peaceful pavement; to the scurry of restless traffic jerking past the green. But the scurry is so fun to watch.

It makes me all a jolly quiver. Would recommend this album to anyone. Especially for the particular fans of Baths, Teebs, Dosh, Shigeto, Ducktails, Com Truise, that kind of thing; for Baths fans who came to appreciate Cerulean in hindsight with a Geotic perspective.
