So it’s probably because I spent last night watching Bad Boys and Bad Boys II, but I’ve just been on a hip-hop binge and occasionally shouting or pointing my gun-fingers at housemates. Don’t mess with my black ass. Big K.R.I.T.(King Remembered In Time)’s new mixtape is soundtracking these shenanigans. Most notably 1986, a balls-out, pimpin’ song about his car. His 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo to be precise.

Although it would be a complete waste of money, I spend a lot of time wishing I had a car, just to drive round town with songs like this blaring. The song is based around a funky little sample which sounds as though it’s come straight out of an 80’s cop film, y’know, where they do the sweeping shot of the bad guys partying, snorting yayo and chillin’ with bitches (ok, so I wouldn’t be able to cut it as a gangster). K.R.I.T. brings it up to date with some pumping drums and a really catchy chorus hook:
“It was 1986, yeah I’m back bitch.”
So he’s not a lyrical genius (although…, but it’s catchy and funky, and when the sun’s out I imagine driving round my hood with this pumping.

That’s a nice fish. Big fucking eyes… but a nice fucking fish.
