My brain is utterly frazzled. Subjunctives, passives and modal particles have consumed every hour of every day for an insubordinate amount of time and now with its appetite unsatisfied its started gnawing away at my appreciation for music. Introducing the heroin of the hour Alex Winston. Her voice is easily compared to Kate Bush but Winston is even more extra terrestrial, delicate and strangely cute. The song bounces along with a sort of epic melancholy which Arcade Fire have mastered but this song is less heaving juggernaut and more stone skimming along the water. Catchy hooks, harmonies and a memorable chorus, the perfect recipe for pop music…the beach fossils remix is fairly delicious too.

Prickly Fawns.

Dylan Leblanc-If The Creek Don’t Rise

I’ve just watched a film involving a fawn with a shady temperament and a man or at least a creature with skin akin to a man with no eyes. No prizes for guessing what the film is but, following 2 hours of mythical capers and intense emotion, Dylan Leblanc is the perfect antidote. I can’t think of many voices which flow so naturally and soulfully as Leblanc’s. The music  is simple and almost as effortless as his voice, if ‘air’ had picked up acoustic guitars and a lap steel this is how ‘moon safari’ could have sounded. This is not to detract from the efforts of Leblanc, indeed I would be surprised if the aforementioned fawn could keep up his nervy enthusiasm/anger after a few spins of this record.
