Some of you who read APFOS regularly will see that I don’t write very often. It’s definitely not because I don’t enjoy it. I would love to post every week, but I feel that writing occasionally gives me the chance to post about music that has stuck with me since I first heard it, and therefore gives the post a little more meaning. I could easily blog all my SoundCloud ‘likes’ and YouTube shares, but I probably wouldn’t have much to say after a while other than “listen to it”. I’m not good at talking about the structure of a song or reviewing it.
For me it’s all about the moment I hear the first beat of a track. Most of us make up mind on whether we like a song or not in the first few moments of listening to it. So to me finding that perfect beat can be a long yet incredible experience. When a song hits you, and you really connect with it, it gives you something you didn’t know could exist. For that noise, that someone else has created, to be so pleasing to your ears is, to me, absolutely amazing. I go through pages and pages of SoundCloud, YouTube, blogs and podcasts, clicking anything and everything and then eventually find it – that few minutes or more of perfection.
A few weeks ago, I had this connection with Tim Toh’s He Is A Dancer ft. Lisa Toh and Strawberryeater. I’d never heard of Toh’s work before, but the first few seconds of each song hit me, and now I can’t stop listening to them both. The two tracks are definitely up there in my top tracks of the year. Highly recommended. Maddie x
