Tubelord have to be one of my top -5 all time bands. Their eccentric blend of prog-rock and math-pop layered with carefully crafted lyrics and separated by fuzz-fed hardcore breakdowns makes them one of the most creative, experimental yet catchy bands around at the moment. Ok, I’m gushing. Sorry. Anyhow, much of this is down to the creative talent of Joe Prendergast, lead-whiner extraordinaire and guitar player. During a little lull in Tubelord’s touring and recording schedule he’s created himself a new alias and a brash blend of electro and lo-fi rock, pretty similar to Math The Band, although not so extrovertly joyous. Here is JOEY FOURR.
JOEY FOURR – CROSS†DRESSER
This is CROSS†DRESSER. I’m a little disappointed he’s conformed to the totally lame trend of adding in stupid computer symbols to make something seem RAD, but I’ve always found Tubelord’s aesthetic a little weird. Putting that aside this truly is RAD. So rad that the small child sat next to me on the train has his hands over his ears and a hurt, confused expression on his face, kinda like these kids. This is cartoony electro at its best. It sounds like it should be on Adventure Time, or some other obscenely hallucinogenic children’s TV program. I can’t wait for more.
