I’ve been meaning to write about Faye for a while. I stumbled across her on youtube, and she took me aback. Maybe it was because at first I thought Nicola Roberts had a new alias, but both her video and song are so arresting. Sat in the back of a cab she casually belts out a fantastically emotive electro-pop ballad. It’s hard to look away.
The Swedish singer, who as a teenager toured with Destiny’s Child and N Sync with her teen-pop band Play, has now fully matured into a fully fledged broody pop singer. A lot of credit has to go to the production team behind it as well. There’s something to be said for minimalism and the simple pulsing bassline and arpeggiated synths compliment Faye’s passionate vocals. They have also toed the line of auto-tuning perfectly, adding a slight fuzz which makes the song sound as though it was recorded on a phone whilst Faye was screaming at a fjord (in a good way..).
Here it is. If you like it, go check out Swn Festival in Cardiff, October 18-21. Awesome line-up already.
