This is a very short post. As I said in my last post I’m not good at reviewing songs or their structure and in this case I am finding it hard to find words that will give this music justice. When it comes to bands these days I have to admit I rarely ever listen to them. My shift in music taste to more electronic sounds has hindered my appetite to search for new bands and so when I heard Hiatus Kaityote it was refreshing and they definitely deserve the hype. It’s the first time in a while that I’ve been hooked on a band’s sound and I can’t get enough.
Self described as a “Future Soul band” they are brilliant and have so much soul. They self released their debut album ‘Tawk Tomahawk’ in April 2012 on bandcamp. It’s one of my favourite albums of 2012, I wish I’d heard it sooner. I’d seen them on the tracklists of Anthony Valadez’s KCRW show a few months ago but for some reason never went and listened to their songs. Fronted by Nai Palm and from Australia, they’ve been featured on the new Brownswood Bubblers and are starting to in the UK get the recognition they deserve.
[If you’ve never listened to one of Anthony Valadez’s shows I highly recommend it. His selection of tracks is exceptional and a great way of discovering great music, both old and new.]
I want to post all their songs, but I’ll stick to three. Click here for their bandcamp.
