Life Without Buildings – New Town (live)
I am part of a new generation of cyclists who are completely changing the face of cycling. I cycle hard and almost aimlessly until I am out of the city. Away from cars and houses and into the kind of countryside that is inhabited and beautiful enough to warrant an obscure train station but not significant enough to warrant any trains. Once I get to this subsuburban realm I get a puncture and have to walk back home. Admittedly I was a little hacked off at the prospect of a 45 minute walk home but by the time I turned the corner of our street I would have happily walked past the door and through Exeter till I was out the other side of town.
Such a ramshackle affair made me think of Sue Tompkins’ vocals in the now defunct Life Without Buildings. Stammering, giggling, shy and everything else that made this band so original, refreshing and memorable.
