APFoS: Do you try to reflect on your time living in Iran through your music and lyrics?
Sami: I always say that I don’t directly reflect on my time living in Iran through my music and lyrics, but it’s a part of who I am, so in turn, it’s just naturally a part of what comes out of me.
APFos: You say you were heavily influenced by the music of Googoosh, could you describe their sound in one sentence.
Oh, man. I have a hard time even describing my own music! Seriously. I’m the worst at this. Iranian-Pop??
APFoS: What is the one album that has had the greatest influence on your music or changed your perspective creatively?
Sami: It’s hard to narrow it down to just one. Abbey Road is pretty high up there, but I also love girl-pop groups of the 50’s and 60’s. I love the harmonies, and the lyrics. I love the vibe and relative simplicity of the music from that time.
APFoS: What is the worst lyric you have ever written?
Sami: I’m sure there’s been a lot. Hopefully I’ve never used them! I don’t think I can remember anything in particular, but it was probably when I first started writing songs and it was probably something really cheesy that would make me cringe now. It probably made me cringe then too.
