Firstly I would like to apologise for my absenteeism from the blog, the reason for it has been the miserable mountain of work currently stacked before me. The workload is easing slowly but surely but it will be a while before I post on the regular. So here’s a few tracks I’ve been listening to rather alot.
First up Eleanor Friedberger. Now if you’ve read this blog at all, you’ll know we fucking love wittering on about the weather. Juxtaposing it, longing for it, personifying songs as it…Marcus used to refuse to publish posts if it didn’t feature the adjective sun-drenched. No different here, this tune is a little slice of summer. The deep synths give such a nice roundedness to the song, and the skipping keys in the chorus and the sax in the finale are cascading in the rays of a thousand suns (that’ll make the cut). Also check the guitar that comes in at 2:55, I love that layering, an example of understated and smart structuring.
Secondly Iman Europe. We were inboxed a new track to publish but not knowing the artist I checked out the back catalogue. The track Cupid’s Laser caught my attention. It is smooth and futuristic soul. It seems to fit in with the wave of smarter R n B and Electronic music gradually making its way into the charts like Aluna George, Jessie Ware and to a certain extent The Weeknd. This is certainly intriguing stuff, check it.
Next Surfer Blood-Demon Dancer, something else we do here at APFoS is refuse to shut up about a song until you listen to it. I’m not going to shut up about it. Listen to it. I insist. This video is gloriously odd. I’ve also just realised the lead singer looks like someone I went to school with, how naval-gazing is that? God I was made for this business.
Finally M79 Vampire Weekend because I’m on that 2008 steez. Yep the title has nothing to do with the post, jog on.
