Following on from Marcus & Maddie’s excellent posts I’ll throw my hat into the ring. I’ve never been to Latitude and only really have Marcus’ thundering praise and the perennially stellar line-ups which pop up on my screen every now and then to go on. It’s something I’ve always wanted to go to, the logical blend of performative arts, be it music, comedy and poetry is always highly enticing and, although my choices here are musical, they are by no means the only things which you should check out – Dylan Moran, for example, is headlining the comedy tent! I’ve chosen a few bands, one from each stage, which I think will put on brilliant performances. Unfortunately I’ve only ever seen one live – can you guess which?
Múm – Dancing Behind My Eyelids
Headphones can be essential, they bring isolation. They bring a song down to an intimate dialogue between artist and audience. They let you play Múm as loud as they go, so loud that activity beyond acute awareness of music is possible. Music can nurture the individual or rally the crowd, here it’s making a fuss over you, just you. The mediation between the percussive glitches and smooth, underwater jetstream like melodies is hugely compelling. There is some kind of adrenaline that runs through this song getting you on your feet, thinking hard, visualising, typing faster, spreading the word. Enjoy this.
