I’ve had a flick through a load of my old posts. They’re all related to the weather. I don’t know if I subconsciously am conforming to that old British stereotype or am just very emotionally linked to the weather. Maybe it’s because it always rained on my birthday, and when it didn’t I was so overjoyed that now when it’s sunny it feels like my birthday. Well today definitely isn’t my birthday (if it’s yours have a great day, here’s a present!) and it’s wet. Luckily a lovely guy all the way from L.A. has got an EP just for us! Balah Resort makes lo-fi shimmers with synths, loops the occasional piano and lots of delay. The result is a melancholic, crackly haze, with glistening drones and laptop splutters which are reminiscent of sun-rays gleaming through the clouds. A little like this. But a lot more lo-fi. The EP’s called Five Ways to Find the Sun, and it’s certainly an apt name. Although I’m not sure what the 5 ways are. Seeing as there are only 3 tracks. Maybe it’s the 5 senses, maybe it’s the 5 fingers on our outstretched hand which is waiting to greet the sun. I’m not sure. But here’s the EP. It’s only $2, which isn’t even a pound, is it? That’s a triple-dip recession busting price if ever I saw one. So why not call back the sun and grab it.
