We present to you… Dan!
Considering I’ve never written for a blog I approach the task with some trepidation especially considering I’m invading on a perfectly decent sibling partnership whose franchise is growing in success. Yet here goes, I saw LCD Soundsystem live in Manchester. Due to unforeseen circumstances we missed the support act which seemed fairly unimportant considering the standard of LCD’s performance. There’s an art to playing dance music without turntables and LCD Soundystem are close to perfecting it, the presence of an infallibly large disco ball whipped the crowd into an already studio 54 circa 78 style groove frenzy.
Playing a combination of Sound Of Silver and their new, yet to be released record, they delivered on a grand scale. Bass crunching and pounding where necessary, drums impressively carrying a thoroughly danceable rhythm and an impressive array of synth gadgetry being meticulously prepared to deliver the drones and harmony of one of the most compelling live shows I’ve witnessed in a long time. What also comes across was the rock element to LCD Soundystem, they were loud, not necessarily aggressive but certainly made more of an impact than I expected. They even caused some particularly vivacious dancers to explode into an unashamed teenage mash amongst the polite bouncing heads and shuffling feet. For all my efforts of conciseness I feel I’ve outstayed my welcome so here’s the music…
