The problem with the internet is that people’s opinions can influence your expectations too much. I realised this after seeing the Knife at the Roundhouse on Wednesday.
I had made the mistake of reading the bad reviews on the internet and was expecting the show to be embarrassing, boring, weird and perhaps a waste of my money and time. It was no Silent Shout tour but I found it incredibly fun and also slightly strange (dance aerobics) but perhaps no stranger than a Bjork show. Yes they weren’t really playing live but I didn’t care and neither did the people around me dancing. When One Hit came on about half way through I couldn’t contain myself. For me the dancers enhanced the show and were a nice change to the normal gig set up. Silent Shout at the end made it even better. I can understand why some people felt it was perhaps a let down, especially with the cost of ticket and if they had been expecting a Silent Shout show. Some people have suggested that maybe the Knife were laughing at us. Maybe they were, all I know for sure is that they made me dance and I had a great time.
