A few days late but here’s a write-up on the recent summer playlist, yes its a few days late but I’ve been busy OKAY?
When it comes to making a summer playlist I would argue approaches vary wildly in the endless hunt for that carefree sound that delineates the end of academic responsibilities and the beginning of a new season. However as people, including myself, grow older we realise there is no end to the year, the year drives on unrelentingly so we search harder for something that can concentrate all those feelings we have on a week or 14 day holiday into a neat package or we alternatively conduct a lengthy exercise in nostalgia (See The Strokes and RJD2’s inclusion). My playlist is a combination of both songs that I consider inherent to the summer vibe and songs which have shaped my summer’s personally. Herein you’ll find breezy horns (Action Bronson, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Just Brothers) sodapop reggae organ (Jimmy Cliff), 80’s style remixes (MS MR CHVRCHES) the archetypal summer mashup (Phoenix vs R Kelly) as well as a load of other sun-soaked, ice-cool summer jams. (Kudos to Coos for his inclusions too).
