I understand that this music seems a little unusual for apfos, but what’s the harm in broadening our horizons? This piece of music is from the film ‘Waltz With Bashir’, the film is equally as compelling as this music and I highly recommend it. There are 5 versions of this piece used throughout the film but I find the solo violin to be the most moving beginning with a lonesome melancholy which gradually progresses to the major and settles back down to minor once more. It is a truly haunting and brilliant piece of music, if there was ever a case of music reflecting its title, this is it.

Coming in at only 1:37 I feel I would be cheating you if I didn’t provide a second piece for your enjoyment. It is again Max Richter, with an unapologetically short piano tune. Vladamir’s Blues has is very much in the same vein as some of Yann Tiersen’s and Ludovico Einaudi’s piano work and without doubt could fulfill the same purposes their music has been used for. Whether it is the soundtrack to an epic nature scene narrated by David Attenborough or a gritty social drama directed by Shane Meadows, the music is versatile enough to occupy either role. For me however, rather than using it to punctuate something else I would rather appreciate it in its own right. This is not a difficult task as this is classical music at its most accessible and it will not fail to capture your imagination.
